not going to pubcon after all.

flight canceled, hotel canceled. I’m bummed out because these conferences don’t come up very often, and it’s a great networking opportunity, and a chance to be immersed in webmaster-chat for a few days with the world’s brightest and best. But as the day approached, both members of my family started getting sick… when the princess got pneumonia and T’s persistent sniffles turned into hacking congestion, it became obvious that they would not be able to cope with me gone for a week.

I can’t be all disappointed though. The deal was pretty clear months ago as I discussed it with my spouse: if everything is cool at home and everyone’s well (which in November is a gamble) and my husbandly/fatherly duties were expendable for the time I’d be away, then I’ll go. If not, then I had to be prepared to cancel the trip. Inasmuch as I will miss being in Vegas to hang out with the folks I met in Boston, I’d rather be home right now. Given our relative situations, missing a webmaster conference is less of a nuisance than infected lungs, difficulty breathing, head congestion, sore throats, and all the November illness agony my family is enduring.

If you were planning to meet me at pubcon Vegas 2006, don’t worry, there will be others. Have a great time, post stories on all your respective blogs, and sticky-mail me with any good tips you uncover. And have a drink on my behalf.

Cheers
